Bananas constitute major staple food in Uganda. They are however prone to unstable weather changes. They need to be looked after very well all the year round.
Our mission is to farm with nature – sunlight, air, soil microorganisms and turning weeds into crop nutrients. We try to minimise use of chemical pesticides and herbicides. We grow bananas, rosemary, vegetables, chilli, coffee and fruit trees mainly black jack, amla, oranges, lemon, bitter guard, macadamia nuts, mangoes and other trees – eucalyptus, pine.
We make the manure and pesticides from food residues, weeds and shrubs. We also trap, and cultivate beneficial microorganisms that are used in facilitating composting of plant and animal excreta to improve soil fertility.
“Revolutionizing Banana Wilt Treatment and Sanitation in Schools:
BFI Microbes Solution Achieves Groundbreaking Results”
Banana wilt and pit latrine odors have long plagued rural communities and schools, threatening food security and public health. BFI Microbes Solution, a pioneering organic technology, has successfully harnessed the power of microorganisms to tackle these challenges.
Banana Wilt Treatment:
In 2009, BFI Microbes Solution launched a large-scale trial in partnership with local farmers to treat banana wilt using its proprietary microbial blend. The results were astounding:
– 100% reduction in banana wilt incidence within 3 months
– 70% increase in banana yields
– 50% reduction in chemical fertilizer usage
Pit Latrine Odor Reduction:
In collaboration with the schools, BFI Microbes Solution implemented its microbial solution in 20 schools to combat pit latrine odors:
– 95% reduction in odor complaints from students and teachers
– 90% reduction in fly populations surrounding latrines
– 90% reduction in disease-causing pathogens in latrine waste
Testimonials:
“Before BFI Microbes Solution, our banana plantation was on the brink of collapse. Now, our crops are thriving, and our income has increased significantly.” Twinomujuni Furida, Local Farmer
“The change in our school’s pit latrines is remarkable. Our students can now use the facilities without discomfort, and absenteeism has decreased.” – Headteacher Kawempe Ttulla Primary school
Key Factors Contributing to Success:
BFI Microbes Solution’s groundbreaking success demonstrates the transformative power of microorganisms in addressing pressing environmental and health challenges. As BFI company continues to innovate and expand its reach, it is poised to make a lasting impact on communities worldwide.
In order to provide adequate water for irrigation of crops, BFI is planning to have a water resource in Mubende. The water resource will be built on existing pond that is currently insufficient to provide adequate water for irrigation. It will also be used for fish farming to generate more food and income to the company. Here below is the design of this water resource.
